Criminal Defense Trial Services
Successfully handling a criminal case involves a number of factors. The most important are often experience and credibility. Through experience a lawyer can evaluate a case, and determine the possible outcomes. Credibility plays an important role in the lawyer’s dealings with investigators, prosecuting attorneys and the courts. Prosecutors and investigators know who the good lawyers are, and that knowledge often effects how they will handle the case. Other lawyers also know who the good lawyers are, and those are those lawyers they refer cases to when the need arises.
We have the experience and credibility developed through years of successfully handling cases in state and federal court. We routinely obtain referrals from other lawyers, and have the highest rating given to lawyers and law firms by Martindale-Hubbell, a national directory service. Additionally, Mr. Reaves serves as a director for the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association, as well as a committee member of the State Bar of Texas committee on the provision of legal services to the poor in criminal matters. He is also a past-president of the McLennan County Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association.
Successfully handling a case also requires knowledge of the law. Not only is that necessary to evaluate a case, it is also critical in ensuring each client’s rights are fully protected throughout the proceedings. We have that knowledge, which has been obtained through years of experience in successfully handling appeals. Additionally, we stay current on legal developments, and help other lawyers do so through our contributions to legal updates published by both the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association.
Fees are generally determined by the nature of the charge, with fees being higher for more serious offenses. We attempt to set fees based on the amount of work anticipated. For that reason, we cannot set the fee until we have some information about your case. Although our fees are not cheapest, they are competitive with other lawyers of comparable experience. Fees for misdemeanor charges generally average $1,000. Fees for felony charges range from $2,500 to $10.000 an up, depending on the nature of the charge. Fees for federal charges generally range from $6,000 to $10,000.
